Free Event Offers Educational Summer Fun to Promote
Join us as we sponsor the Get Stroke Smart Summer Fun Event on July 20 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Triple Crown Country Club. This free family-friendly event is open to the public and will raise stroke awareness through information sessions, activities, and games.
Every year, 800,000 people have a stroke in the United States, killing nearly 130,000 and leaving approximately 670,000 survivors. The Get Stroke Smart Summer Fun Event will feature real-life stories from some of those survivors, who will answer questions about stroke recovery. The event will also include blood pressure checks for adults, a tutorial on the brain, signs, and symptoms of stroke, and tips on stroke prevention.
Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability in the U.S., and 34 percent of those hospitalized for strokes were under 65 years-old. We hope to get help kids and parents learn more about stroke prevention and survival through the Get Stroke Smart Event.
Children and families will have the opportunity to learn what a stroke survivor experiences through informative hands-on games and activities during the event. Kids can participate in one-armed activities, including putt-putt golf, T-ball, ping-pong, and corn hole to simulate the limitations experienced by a stroke survivor. Participants can also receive prizes and refreshments.
Triple Crown Country Club is located at 10644 Triple Crown Blvd., Union, KY. Get Stroke Smart Summer Fun Event is free and open to the public. Registration begins at 9 a.m. For more information or to RSVP visit http://onestrokeforward.org/get-stroke-smart-this-summer/
